Videotapes from Australia

1 November 1979 1 March 1980

Video Tapes from Australia a collection of Australian video compiled in 1979 by Stephen Jones (then at PVAC) and Bernice Murphy (then at AGNSW). Under the auspices of the Australian Gallery Directors Council, it travelled overseas to the US, with exhibitions at

  • The Kitchen, New York;
  • LAICA, Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art;
  • Bay Area Video Coalition, San Francisco (one day showing).
  • The collection then went to Canada where it was shown at the

  • Video Inn, Vancouver.
  • On its return to Australia it was shown as

  • Project 30 at the Art Gallery of NSW in August, 1980
  • Ewing and George Paton Galleries Melbourne, and
  • the University of Queensland Art Gallery
  • At the same time a second copy of the collection was shown during the 1980 Venice Biennale in the Archivio storico delle arti contemporanee (over 22-31 July, 1980) as

  • Videotapes dall'Australia
  • It was presented by Anna Canepa and slightly re-jigged from the collection that went to the US and Canada.
