The light fell – some new pain

Julie Vulcan
1990

3 video monitors, found objects – building rubble, partial sculpted head, blue vase, bricks, black material
Video/sound: Julie Vulcan

The video monitors arranged atop a pile of building rubble and unearthed objects. Two monitors reveal buildings in various states of destitution and/or demolition overlayed by growing vegetation. The third image traces a black moon across a landscape. The light in all three images is evocative of an apocalyptic dust storm orange. The conceptual framework explores notions around futile attempts at immortality, emotional landscapes, and memory.
