Life Spacies II

Laurent Mignonneau, Christa Sommerer
1999

Life Spacies II is an interactive artificial life environment where users can create artificial creatures by typing text messages. Based on the idea of using language as genetic code and translating words or sentences into visual forms, Life Spacies II is an interactive system for the Internet. The text characters function as genetic code for the creature’s design. Each different text will create a new creature which has the potential to eat up other creatures — move fast or slow and potentially mate. Created by the internationally renowned media artists Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau Life Spacies II was developed for the ICC Communication Museum in Tokyo permanent collection.
