Artist Collective

Inhibodress was an important artist-run space in Sydney in 1971-72, set up by Mike Parr, Peter Kennedy and Tim Johnson and showed mostly conceptual work. The idea for the gallery was initiated by Mike Parr when he called a meeting in August 1970 to establish an artists’ run space that would focus on installation and conceptual art.

Sound design

Annie McKinnon makes art to share experiences and observations accessible to everyone. McKinnon has always been obsessed with sound and how it can transport time and place into a new context. Throughout 2015 and 2016 she has been working on a larger installation work made up of lots of sounds recorded around her hometown, Coonabarabran in NSW.

TVX was a British video workshop and research group that formed around some video equipment loaned by the Beatles and early versions of the 1/2" Sony portapak. It was founded in 1969 by John "Hoppy" Hopkins and Cliff Evans. Among numerous other members were Steve Herman and the Australian, John Kirk, who later became a founding member of Bush Video.

ACAB attempt to rethink human actions and impulses: for instance, rather than attempting control over our environmental fate, the human hand could choose to act as a catalyst for change. An environmental crisis for one organism might be the next big break for another (as an asteroid was for the dinosaurs). Their practice uses material exploration to contextualise these changes and is an attempt towards a crucible for positive change. Through synthesis of accumulated materials and the play of light; our works aim to activate this change in perception.

Ariel was an important figure in the early video art scene that emerged in the late 1960s. Identifying with the transcendental hippy counter-culture of the day, Ariel joined the Bush Video group as a cameraperson and technician from early 1974 until the middle of 1975.

Artist collective working in various anonymous and interventionist guises during the 1980s. Infamously inserted video cut-ups at the end of rented movies from video rental stores on Oxford Stree Sydney, to be randomly viewed by audiences who hired the tape and made it all the way to the end of the commercially-recorded program. Members of the group included John Jacobs.
